Ingredients
-
10-12 medium sized potatoes, sliced 1-2 cm thick
-
3 tablespoon butter
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 onion, diced
-
¼ cup flour
-
1 can evaporated milk
-
1 can water (using the evaporated milk can to measure)
-
2/3 of 450 gram package of cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Peel potatoes and then slice potatoes and add to a bowl of cold water (this removes extra starch).
In a pot heated over medium heat, on the stove, melt butter. Sauté garlic and onion in melted butter until softened.
Sprinkle flour into the pot and stir to coat onion and garlic.
Whisk in milk and water into the pot and bring to a light boil. Mix in cheese and stir until melted. Set aside.
Line a baking dish with a few layers of parchment paper (this will protect your baking dish from ingredients getting baked on). Drain sliced potatoes in a colander in preparation to putting ingredients together.
Layer half of the potatoes in baking dish and then top with half of the cheese sauce. Layer the remainder of the sliced potatoes. Pour over remaining cheese sauce and top with shredded cheese.
Bake scalloped potatoes for 60 to 90 minutes uncovered.
