My youngest requested that we plant an apple tree when we moved to our new house, a few years ago. When we were able to pick enough apples, from his first harvest, I naturally had to make this family favourite. I hope that you enjoy this taste of Fall as much as we do!
Ingredients
-
8 - 10 your favourite apples, peeled and sliced
-
½ to 1 cup white sugar (adjust according to apple tartness)
-
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon cinnamon
-
⅓ to ½ cup water (I find that crispier apples require a bit more water)
-
A splash of vanilla
-
1 cup oats
-
1 cup all purpose flour
-
1 cup brown sugar
-
½ cup white sugar
-
¼ teaspoon baking powder
-
¼ teaspoon baking soda
-
½ cup melted butter
Crisp Topping:
Directions
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Peel and slice apples and place in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
In a small bowl, mix together sugar. flour, and cinnamon. Sprinkle sugar mixture over the apples evenly. Don’t mix.
Pour water over the apples and sugar mixture. Add a splash of vanilla.
In a small bowl, mix together all of the crisp topping ingredients, except for butter.
Melt the butter, in a bowl, in the microwave. Pour the melted butter over the oat mixture and mix well.
Sprinkle crisp topping over the apples evenly. Bake the crisp in the preheated oven for 30-45 minutes until topping is golden brown and apples are soft.
Enjoy 🖤
